A Spring Valley man on parole after serving time for gun possession is headed back to state prison for nine years on a new gun conviction.
Rockland Judge Kevin Russo imposed that sentence for 27-year-old Keimoni Spinks on Wednesday, Aug. 12, seven months after convicting him of second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon after a non-jury trial.
Spinks served six years in prison for a 2018 felony gun conviction in Orange County.
He had been out of prison for just two months on July 29, 2024, when he was a passenger in a car pulled over by Ramapo police for excessively tinted windows. Spinks fled, leaving behind a bag on the floor of the front passenger seat that contained a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, the DA's Office said.
He was
taken into custody at a hotel in Spring Valley. Subsequent testing found Spinks' DNA on the bag that held the gun.
"This defendant, while on parole for a previous felony gun conviction, again made a choice to illegally possess a firearm in Rockland County which will not be tolerated," District Attorney Thomas Walsh II said in a statement.
Spinks' lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
