A South Salem man has been convicted for a violent altercation with police four years ago at a liquor store in the Oakridge Common shopping center, the Westchester District Attorney's Office said.
Jurors in Lewisboro Town Court on Friday, July 24, found 37-year-old Carlos Bringas guilty of third-degree assault, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a violation.
On June 6, 2022, Lewisboro police went to Vista Wine & Spirits at Oakridge Common on a report of harassment. While Bringas was being questioned he became unruly and abusive towards the officers, according to a news release Monday from the DA's Office.
As they tried to arrest Bringas
on a disorderly conduct charge, he resisted and kicked out a window of the patrol car. Then at town court he again fought with police.
District Attorney Susan Cacace and Lewisboro police Chief David Alfano applauded the verdict in a news release, with Cacace saying Bringas' "rash and violent actions in this incident were unacceptable."
"The jury’s verdict reaffirms that violent and obstructive behavior toward law enforcement officers will not be tolerated in our community.” Alfano said.
Bringas' lawyer could not immediately be reached.
Lewisboro Judge John Pappalardo has not yet scheduled sentencing. Bringas faces up to one year in the county jail on each of the misdemeanors, but prosecutors could seek consecutive time.
