The Dream Team was born in 1989 when the rules were changed to allow NBA players to compete in the Olympics.
And in Barcelona in 1992 the team did not disappoint. In fact, no other team came close to beating them and they took Gold with a 117-85 win over Croatia in the final.
Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin and Christian Laettner, made up the squad.
Laettner had just finished his senior year at Duke.
The Dream Team won all eight of their games, by an average of 44 points, including a 116-48 shellacking of Angola in the first game of the prelims.
The closest anyone came was 32 points, in the final.
The US beat Puerto
Rico in the quarterfinals 115-77. In the semifinals, Lithuania was vanquished 127-76.
The 1992 squad was inducted as a team into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and all the players but Laettner were eventually enshrined as individuals.
