Two people remain missing Tuesday in the San Joaquin River as authorities enter the third day of searching following a boating incident.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit began its search Sunday, Sept. 6, after a solo boating incident at Prisoner Point and Hayes Beach.
The sheriff’s office said one person was recovered from the water with major injuries and was flown by Life Flight to a hospital in critical condition.
On Sunday, search efforts continued into the evening for two people who were still missing, but the search was eventually suspended because of darkness. The following day, Monday, Sept. 7, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team joined the search.
Initially, the sheriff’s office said the incident
involved two vessels, including one that overturned and submerged. The sheriff’s office later clarified that it had received inaccurate information and the incident only involved one boat.
As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 no new updates were available regarding the search. The sheriff's office said more information would be released as it becomes available.
