The Maya Angelou Library Branch reopened on Monday after having been temporarily closed since mid-March for renovations.
The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library announced on Aug. 5, that the library was reopening with a small celebration on Monday, Aug. 10, after it received a refresh. The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library announced on March 19 that the library would be temporarily closed starting March 23.
"The Angelou Library hasn’t received a significant refresh since it opened in 1996, so we’re especially excited to bring these improvements to the community," Stockton spokesperson Tony Mannor said via email on Tuesday. "The refreshed space will provide a more welcoming, comfortable, and engaging environment for everyone to enjoy."
The library is located at 324 Pock Lane in Stockton.
Returning patrons can expect updated flooring, new furniture, and improvements throughout the building, according to Mannor.
"The goal was not only to update the appearance of the library, but to create a more comfortable and welcoming space for reading, studying, gathering, and using library resources," he said.
The library was also freshly painted, with the exterior to be painted soon. Mannor said glass doors were installed in the study rooms and new flooring was installed in the library's community room, library and staff areas.
"The Maya Angelou Library is well-used by families and youth," Mannor said. "The improvements include a reconfigured floorplan to provide more space for families to connect, engage in literacy activities, and play and learn together at the library."
The Maya Angelou Library is one of nine libraries in Stockton and 17 in San Joaquin County, the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library website states.
Maya Angelou Library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday.
