The annual St. Basil Greek Food Festival has been a community staple for more than six decades.
The three-day food festival returns to the St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, Sept. 11 at 920 W. March Lane in Stockton through Sunday, Sept. 13. This year's festival hours are from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
This year the festival celebrates its 67th year.
"The Greek Food Festival is a popular event that brings the community together to enjoy the best of Greekculture, cuisine, baked goods, family entertainment and shopping," a news release states. "The event is held both indoors and outdoors on the beautiful grounds of the St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church."
Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Ministries
Charities of the Greek Orthodox Church, according to the news release.
Those attending the festival can look forward to trying authentic Greek pastries and foods such as argolavous, loukoumades and gyros. This year, souvlaki will also be offered.
"New to the festival this year is souvlaki, a flavorful grilled pork skewer, and galaktoboureko, a cream-filled phyllo pastry. Guests may buy from a variety of stations and enjoy the beautiful outside food court pavilion, or meals inside the community hall," a news release states. "Home baked fresh breads and desserts include; koulourakia; karidopita, and baklava."
There are 287 pounds of butter, 118 dozen eggs, 618 pounds of flour, 269 pounds of sugar and 556 pounds of phyllo dough used to make all the Greek pastries and cookies offered at the festival, according to the news release.
Aside from authentic foods, there will also be Greek performances throughout the three days of the festival feturing performances from the church’s dancers, Kymata and performer Demetrios Arabatzis. The church will also offer church tours and presentations to those intrested.
Admission is $5 at the door. Children 11 years old and under enter free with an adult. Parking is free at the event.
