A 17-year-old Stockton resident who was shot and killed Sunday was identified Monday by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Matthew Matheny Palacios was fatally shot on Sept. 27 in the area of North Sutter and East Flora streets.
Stockton police said officers were called to the area at 2:03 p.m. after receiving a report of a person who had been shot. Palacios was found at the scene with a gunshot wound, police said.
The teenager was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said no suspect information is available and investigators have not identified a motive in the shooting.
On Monday afternoon, eight candles had been placed near the scene where
Palacios was killed.
Palacios’ death marked the city's 22nd homicide this year, compared with 29 at the same time last year.
