The monthslong wait is over — the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot finally has a winner after a single ticket matched the winning numbers.
On Tuesday, July 28, a ticket sold in Florida hit all the numbers, according to Mega Millions officials. The prize, worth $344.2 million in cash, marks the third jackpot claimed this year and ranks as the 10-largest in the game’s history.
The winner can choose between a single lump‑sum payout or an initial payment followed by annual installments that increase by 5% each year.
This jackpot survived 38 drawings since the last big win on St. Patrick’s Day, when an Ohio player claimed $60 million.
There were 85,790 winning tickets in California, including one worth $63,396 and several in the four figures, according
to the California Lottery.
Californians hoping to strike it rich will get another chance: The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, July 29 grows to $663 million with a cash option of $290.4 million, according to powerball.com.
