A Stockton man was sentenced this week to 9½ years in prison for robbing a Fire Wings Restaurant at gunpoint in 2022, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced.
Douglas Sharron Piggee Jr., 55, of Stockton, was sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 8, by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez for interference with commerce by robbery and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Piggee pleaded guilty on March 25, 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California.
According to the plea agreement document, Piggee entered Fire Wings at 6625 Pacific Ave. in Stockton on July 21, 2022, and pointed a gun at the cashier. He demanded money from the register, plea agreement documents stated.
The cashier walked to
the back of the store to get the shift lead while warning her co-workers to “get down” so they would not get shot, the document stated. When the shift lead began talking to Piggee, he again brandished the firearm and demanded money. Piggee ultimately fled the restaurant on foot with about $1,196.
However, the plea agreement stated that Piggee left his car keys on the counter of the restaurant as he fled.
Piggee’s vehicle was found by officers parked a few blocks away from Fire Wings. Inside the car was $1,196 in loose cash, an unserialized, loaded, privately manufactured firearm or “ghost gun,” an extended magazine loaded with 24 rounds of ammunition, and the clothes Piggee used during the robbery, federal prosecutors said.
Investigators also found two cellphones belonging to Piggee and his California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation inmate responsibility card were found in the vehicle.
Piggee committed the crime while on supervised release after serving prison sentences for two prior federal convictions: one for armed bank robbery and one for escape and illegal possession of a firearm, federal prosecutors said.
Officers found Piggee in a nearby neighborhood, where he was walking on foot and “sweating profusely,” the plea agreement documents stated.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Stockton Police Department conducted the investigation Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Desmond prosecuted the case.
