Each week, The Record will rank all 26 county high school football teams while tracking how the landscape shifts throughout the season.

After Week 0, here’s how all 26 county teams rank heading into Week 1. Movement reflects changes from The Record’s preseason rankings

1. St. Mary's (—) (1-0)
Maybe, just maybe, St. Mary's is even better than last year. The Rams went on the road and beat Nevada's No. 8 Bishop Manogue 27-7, one year after winning 51-38. And if history repeats itself, that's a good sign — the winner of the past two meetings has gone on to win state.
2. Manteca
(—) (0-1)
There was plenty of NFL star power watching from the stands. San Francisco 49ers George Kittle, Kyle Juszczyk, Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams and Mac Jones were in attendance, but Manteca couldn't hand Saint Francis a loss in front of them, falling 31-23.
3. Oakdale (↑1) (1-0)
So much for wondering how Oakdale would replace nearly 5,000 rushing yards and 74 touchdowns. The Mustangs pounded out 310 yards on 48 carries with two touchdowns in a 21-9 road upset of Sonora, a team coming off a 15-0 Division 4-A state championship season after winning the CIF State Division 2-A championship the year before.
4. Edison (↓1) (1-0)
The Eric Crocker era started with a bang. Edison raced out to a 20-0 halftime lead and beat Elk Grove 39-20 for its first season-opening win since 2021. The Vikings aired it out for 434 yards, more than they had in any single regular-season game a year ago, while showing glimpses of what's changing on both sides of the ball.
5. Tracy (↑2) (1-0)
Sometimes, the score tells you everything. Tracy beat crosstown rival Merrill West 69-7 for its 15th consecutive win in the series and largest margin during that stretch. The Bulldogs had four interceptions, rushed for 374 yards and five touchdowns on 18 carries and threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns on six completions.
6. East Union (—) (0-0)
Hard to move when there's nothing to judge. East Union stays put after an open date.
7. Ripon Christian (↑2) (1-0)
Forget what Ripon Christian lost. The Knights certainly did. After replacing all 23 receiving touchdowns, 33 of 34 rushing scores, 1,804 passing yards, and more than 621 tackles, they blasted Summerville 41-6 behind 371 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 40 carries.
8. Lincoln (—) (0-1)
Stockton couldn't get the best of Jesuit this time. Nearly a year after St. Mary's knocked off the state's top-75 team in the first round of the playoffs, Lincoln took its shot but fell 33-14.
9. Chavez (↓4) (0-1)
Maybe Franklin of Elk Grove got better. Maybe Chavez lost too much to graduation. Either way, a year after beating Franklin 39-26, Chavez fell 34-14 for its first regular-season loss since Aug. 30, 2024. Even more surprising were the 33 rushing yards on 12 carries, the fewest since coach Derek Graves took over in 2024.
10. Escalon (—) (0-1)
A year ago, coach Andrew Beam said Escalon was “a year away.” One game into that year, there are already signs he may have been right. The Cougars fell 28-24 to Liberty Ranch, which started last season 11-1.
11. Tokay (↑3) (1-0)
A new group of varsity players, same result in the Grape Bowl. Tokay rolled past rival Lodi 48-23 to claim the trophy for the second consecutive year.
12. Ripon (↑2) (1-0)
Ripon has been searching for a winning season since 2021. If things are finally heading upward, a 27-24 win over a Livermore team that went 9-2 a year ago is quite the way to start.
13. Stagg (↓1) (0-1)
Coach Sopeter Mao's debut was spoiled, but Stagg shouldn't feel too down about it. The Delta Kings went toe-to-toe with Rio Americano before falling 17-14 to a team that finished last season ranked No. 161 in the state by MaxPreps.
14. Sierra (↑2) (1-0)
What a way to come home. After five years at Lathrop, where he helped win the program's first two league titles in 2024 and 2025, 2001 Sierra graduate Ryan Teicheira returned to his alma mater and turned last year's 61-55 loss to Enochs into a 28-7 win in his debut.
15. Linden (↓4) (0-1)

17. McNair (↑4) (1-0)
18. River Island (↑5) (1-0)
New position, new team, and quite the debut for Darien East. The Sierra transfer went from a 1,000-yard rusher to 166 receiving yards, while quarterback Daryl Carpenter aired it out for 387 yards and six touchdowns. The result was a 49-20 River Islands win over Waterford.
19. Mountain House (↓2) (1-0)
20. Bear Creek (—) (0-1)
21. Lodi (↓2) (0-1)
22. Kimball (↓4) (0-1)
23. Franklin (↑1) (1-0)
24. Millennium (↑2) (1-0)
From being shut out five straight times to doing the shutting out. After going winless in six games last year, Millennium opened this season by blasting Futures 54-0.
25. Merrill West (↓3) (0-1)
26. Weston Ranch (↓1) (0-1)
