A night meant to celebrate 100 seasons of Manteca High School football came to an abrupt end Friday, Sept. 11.
One person of interest was detained following reports of "shots fired at the Manteca High School Campus" just before 9:30 p.m. Friday night, according to the Manteca Police Department.
Police said on Facebook they received a call reporting shots fired at 9:27 p.m. Officers responded and detained a person of interest.
No injuries were reported, according to police. The shooting occurred near the Winter Gym area.
Six Manteca police officers were already at the school because of the football game at Guss Schmiedt Field.
Manteca led Chavez 29-7 in the third quarter when the game was called.
The incident abruptly ended a night in which Manteca
was celebrating its 100th football season. Festivities were held before the game and during halftime, with two of the school's all-time greats among those honored.
Don Morgan, who played 27 NFL games over four seasons, and Jacob DeJesus, who had a stint with the Kansas City Chiefs this preseason, were both recognized.
Police said the investigation remains active and information is limited. The department asked people to avoid the area.
