Two men arrested in connection with the death of a 74-year-old man who went missing in August are scheduled to make their first court appearance Tuesday.
Luis Moran Almendra and Francisco Renteria-Sanchez, both 28, will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 13, at the Stockton courthouse.
The Stockton Police Department said its department received a report on Aug. 26 of a missing 74-year-old man who was last seen on Aug. 24.
He was later found dead in an unincorporated area of San Joaquin County.
As of Monday, Oct. 12, the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office said it was not releasing the identification of the man due to scientific identification confirmation results.
During the investigation, police said officers located the missing man’s unoccupied
vehicle in the 1500 block of South San Joaquin Street.
On Oct. 9, Stockton police detectives served a search warrant at a home on the same block where the missing person's vehicle was found.
Moran, who police said was identified as the prime suspect, was arrested on suspicion of homicide. Renteria-Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of accessory, police said.
Moran Almendra and Renteria-Sanchez remain in the San Joaquin County Jail as of Monday.
The Stockton Police Department said the death marked the city's 23rd homicide of the year compared to 31 homicides at the same time last year.
