Two men are in custody as of Thursday in connection with a June homicide that left a 16-year-old boy dead in Stockton.
On June 13, Valentino Mark Gilmore was found shot and killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree, Stockton police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Jaylen Morn, 19, was identified as a suspect in the homicide, which occurred in the 1900 block of Hickock Court.
On Sept. 2, police found and arrested Morn. Police did not say where he was found or how investigators connected him to the case. Seven days later, on Sept. 9, Marciano Rivera, 20, who was also identified as a suspect, was arrested.
Court records showed Morn made his first
court appearance on Sept. 4 for an arraignment. He is scheduled to return to court Sept. 23 for further arraignment.
Rivera is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11, according to jail logs.
At 12:30 a.m. on the day Gilmore was killed, officers had responded to the area of the shooting on a report of a person shot.
At the scene, officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree inside the court. Inside the car was Gilmore, who police said had been shot.
Police said more officers responded to another location inside the court and found a 55-year-old man who was also suffering from a graze wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.
Police said the 16-year-old and 55-year-old man were involved in the same incident, but did not release more information about their connection.
Gilmore's death marked the city's 11th homicide this year.
