Each week, The Record will rank all 26 county high school football teams while tracking how the landscape shifts throughout the season.
It’s more than just wins and losses. Movement is explained. Results are detailed. Every ranking carries a reason.
After Week 1, here’s how all 26 county teams rank heading into Week 2. Movement reflects changes from The Record’s Week 0 rankings.
1. St. Mary's (—) (1-1)
The Holy Bowl streak is over. After four straight wins by a combined 86 points, St. Mary's led Central Catholic 14-13 at halftime before being shut out the rest of the way in a 27-14 loss. Is Central Catholic the new VOL favorite, or is there reason to worry about a Rams offense that scored
fewer than 19 points just once last year, against De La Salle?
2. Manteca (—) (0-2)
Don't let 0-2 fool you just yet. Manteca went on the road to face Buchanan, a top-25 team in California, and while the Buffaloes fell 56-34, the offense showed plenty. Nikko Juarez rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, while twins Jayden and Jaylin Harris combined for 187 receiving yards and two scores.
3. Tracy (↑2) (1-1)
Tracy hasn't had a win or ranking like this in 12 years. A blocked field goal sealed a 21-20 overtime upset of Valley Christian, the Bulldogs' first top-100 state win since 2014. Now, for the first time since that season, when Tracy reached the section championship and finished No. 46 in the state, the Bulldogs are back inside the top 100.
4. Lincoln (↑4) (1-1)
Maybe quarterback Julian Perez was onto something when he said “Lincoln’s back.” The Trojans haven’t won a playoff game since 2013 and share a league with a team that hasn’t lost a league game since then. But a 27-21 upset of Oakdale at The Corral, unquestionably Lincoln’s biggest win since, makes that preseason confidence sound a lot more logical.
5. Oakdale (↓2) (1-1)
The comeback gave Oakdale something to like. The rushing attack gave it something to question. The Mustangs rallied from a 27-7 halftime deficit, but after rushing for fewer than 300 yards just once last season, the Wing-T managed only 229 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries.
6. Edison (↓2) (2-0)
Edison drops two spots and somehow looks even more dangerous. Without its No. 1 receiver, who has six Division I offers, Kailan Beaver had 126 receiving yards, Faitupe Sagapolu had 109 and Travis Gresham had 87 in a 26-22 win over Franklin (Elk Grove). Ayden McClendon threw three more touchdowns, while Bryce James rushed for 92 yards. Wide Receiver University, perhaps?
7. East Union (↓1) (1-0)
So far, so good replacing 1,849 rushing yards and 30 total touchdowns. East Union piled up 242 yards and five scores on just 21 carries in a 49-0 win over Modesto. But there's one early concern. The Lancers didn't complete a pass after the passing game helped fuel last year's historic season.
8. Ripon Christian (↓1) (2-0)
It wasn't exactly an offensive showcase, but Ripon Christian found a way. The Knights beat Stagg 20-6 despite finishing with just 97 rushing yards and 40 passing yards.
9. Chavez (—) (1-1)
Last year's win over Escalon was called the “biggest win in program history.” The sequel nearly outdid it. Chavez entered the fourth quarter down nine after not running a single offensive play in the third, then stormed back for a 27-22 win. A year later, this one was simply a “solid win.”
10. Tokay (↑1) (2-0)
Apparently, 48-23 is Tokay's favorite score. The Tigers followed last week's win over Lodi with an identical victory over Golden Valley. Nico Sinigaglia threw three touchdowns, Alex Hernandez caught two, and Mason Zeer piled up 73 rushing yards, two touchdowns and an 86-yard kickoff return.
11. Escalon (↓1) (0-2)
The Escalon team that was “a year away” has now dropped its first two games by fewer than seven points each. Encouraging? Sure. Frustrating? Absolutely.
12. Ripon (—) (1-1)
Holding Placer to 191 total yards should give Ripon a chance. It did, but the Indians managed just one touchdown in a 14-7 loss.
13. Linden (↑2) (1-1)
Now that's how to bounce back. Linden smothered Bear Creek, allowing just 46 rushing yards at 2.9 yards per carry and 84 yards through the air while intercepting three passes in a 20-7 win.
14. Lathrop (↑2) (1-1)
The protege got the better of the mentor. Ryan Teicheira helped lead Lathrop to its first league titles in 2024 and 2025 before returning after five years to Sierra, where he graduated in 2001. Longtime assistant Justin Muschott took over and beat his former boss 33-14.
15. McNair (↑2) (2-0)
Good luck slowing this offense down. A week after McNair piled up 334 passing yards and 134 rushing yards, Shawn San threw for 349 yards and five touchdowns in a 62-12 win over Burbank. Taevion Gibson added 147 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

17. River Island (↑1) (2-0)
18. Sierra (↓4) (1-1)
19. Merrill West (↑7) (1-1)
20. Bear Creek (—) (0-2)
