Two men whose bodies were recovered this week in the San Joaquin River following a boat incident on Sept. 6 have been identified by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Paul Anthony Mendes, 51, of Hanford, and Scott Randall Seabourn, 68, of Lodi, had gone missing near Prisoner Point and Hayes Beach after their boat overturned and submerged. One other person was recovered from the water on the day of the incident with major injuries. The person was flown by Life Flight to a hospital in critical condition, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit had been called to the scene on Sept. 6 to search for the remaining two people. The sheriff’s office said the boating incident
occurred just after 5 p.m. prompting the search efforts which lasted until Sept. 8.
Information about the cause of the incident has not been released as of Wednesday.
Brad Seabourn posted on social media Sept. 7 to speak about Scott Randall Seabourn, who he says was his cousin.
"It’s with a heavy heart God collected another angel yesterday. My cousin Scot Seabourn was in a boat accident yesterday that took his life," Brad Seabourn wrote. "Scot you have always been my hero and since I was a kid I always looked up to you. I do not understand why God takes the good one but he’s got another one now. From fast airplanes to fast boats to fast cars and Sand cars you always pushed it to the limit."
He added, "I Love you cuz and you will always be in my heart for as long as I live. Give Trever a hug for us and hold it down up there until we meet again. RIP Scot Seabourn."
