The Jacksonville Jaguars have set their first 53-man roster of the season.
After making it through training camp and the preseason, the Jaguars trimmed their roster from 90 to 53 players. The initial roster didn't have many surprises, with several player securing their spots early in camp.
Still, there were a few roster spots that were unsure as the team entered the final week of training camp. Those spots have been decided as the team made their initial roster for the regular season.
The team was active ahead of the cut deadline, making trades to adjust their numbers. The team added quarterback Quinn Ewers, swapping him for a late-round pick with the Miami Dolphins. They also sent tight end Hunter Long to Arizona for a late-round pick.
The team
was not satisfied with quarterback play behind Trevor Lawrence as backups Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley struggled in the preseason. Rookie undrafted free agent Joey Aguilar looked sharp throughout the preseason games, but it would've been a risk to go into the season with him as Lawrence's immediate backup.
The Jaguars were likely to cut Long as they extended Brenton Strange and added rookies Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol this offseason. This way they recompensated themselves for the draft pick they lost in the trade to acquire Ewers.
