Mandarin DT Kindrid Outland brings 'five tools' to Super 11. Here's how

With every snap on Mandarin's defense, Kindrid Outland brings intensity.

Intensity… but with a smile.

"I don't try to take it like it's just a serious job," Outland said. "I try to have fun while I'm doing it."

A hard-charging defensive tackle with the skill set to create chaos against both run and pass with one of the Sunshine State's top teams, Outland joins the annual Times-Union Super 11 list for the top-rated senior high school football recruits in Northeast Florida.

"In baseball, they'd use the word 'five-tool player,'" Mandarin head coach Toby Bullock said. "As a D-lineman, he's about as good as they come."

The 23rd Super 11 selection in Mandarin's 36-year history and the fifth Mustang defensive player honored in the last four years (A.J.

Belgrave-Shorter and Jon Mitchell in 2023, Drake Stubbs in 2024 and Brody Jennings in 2025), Outland has brought a competitive energy since he stepped onto the practice field along Greenland Road.

"From the first time he came in here four years ago, we used to have to pull him out of JV practice because we couldn't get a play off [on the offense]," Bullock said. "He is just a naturally gifted young man. We're ecstatic that he's on our team, and he's an even better person."

Outland said teammates on the excellent defensive units throughout the decade at Mandarin have spurred him to continue the winning tradition for the Mustangs, Florida High School Athletic Association regional finalists a year ago.

"I look at the seniors that were here last year and the year before," he said. "They really built that motivation in me."

Outland's junior season was a breakthrough. He finished with 62 tackles (21 for loss), a fumble recovery, five pass breakups and 5 1/2 sacks. But just when people might think the 280-pound Outland is about all business, all the time...

"He loves to dance," Bullock said. "That kind of takes away from some of the scariness."

This year, Outland will be hard to miss in the No. 99 jersey, in the heart of a powerful front seven that also includes Football Bowl Subdivision prospects like linemen Christian McGowan and Xavier Newsom and linebacker Cory Matthews.

Bullock, who played the offensive line at Marshall in a college career that overlapped for one season (2002) with former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich, said Outland's athletic tools stand out instantly.

"He's so powerful off the ball," he said. "His initial surge, his hip explosion, his natural lock-out, and he has a natural kick-back as well. He can just get into you really quick."

Outland, rated as a three-star prospect and a top-140 player in his position nationwide by national recruiting services 247Sports and Rivals, committed to South Florida in May.

Before he touches down in Tampa, he said, his goal in Mandarin is straightforward enough: hoisting a state championship trophy, just like the one Mandarin lifted in 2018. But Outland said he's not letting the high expectations stress him out.

"I don't really feel pressure," he said. "I feel like we are who we are, and we've just got to play like who we are."
