As Winn-Dixie continues its comeback with a fresh redesign and a focus on Florida, the Jacksonville-based chain is working to expand Hispanic foods in more than 30 of its stores, according to an emailed release.
Unlike some other chain grocery stores where traditional Hispanic ingredients may be found in a single "international" section, Winn-Dixie includes items across the store in multiple aisles and the dairy, frozen, produce, bakery, deli, meat and seafood departments, the release said.
"The effort is part of Winn-Dixie’s continued focus on offering products that reflect the tastes, traditions and ways its local communities cook, eat and gather," the company said.

The participating stores are spotlighting their
efforts during National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15) with in-store displays and special savings on select items. Additional locations are planned.
What Hispanic foods does Winn-Dixie carry?
Shoppers can find:
- Pantry staples
- Hispanic cheeses
- Roots, tropical fruits, plantains and fresh culantro
- Tres leches desserts
- Cuban and Puerto Rican breads
- Prepared favorites such as ropa vieja and sweet plantains
- Specialty meat and seafood selections including picanha, whole snapper and corvina
Winn-Dixie making comeback in Florida
Winn-Dixie, founded in Miami in 1925 and now based in Jacksonville, has renewed its Florida expansion after buying back many of its stores from Aldi and reforming under The Winn-Dixie Company. The company has remodeled the remaining Harvey's Supermarkets and a small three-store chain it acquired into Winn-Dixie stores with a new logo and a refreshed design that includes larger meat, deli, bakery, and produce sections, self-checkout stations, and additional improvements.
A new Keystone Heights location opened on Aug. 15, an Alachua one is set to open later this year, and one in Zephryhills is planned for 2027. A store in Eustis is in the works, but no date has been announced.
More grocery store chains expanding in Florida
Winn-Dixie isn't the only grocer hoping to attract Florida's growing, hungry population.
Publix has been steadily opening new and remodeled stores with its own new design, with a new Apopka store opening Sept. 24 and another opening in Bradenton in October. Aldi has been especially aggressive, opening new stores and converting the rest of the Winn-Dixie stores it kept. There are three more Aldi locations opening Sept. 24.
Other chains such as Sprouts Farmers Market and Trader Joe's have also announced Florida expansion plans.
