Jaguars' Jakobi Meyers jammed thumb, could miss time per Liam Coen

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers wore a type of brace on his right hand during the preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers. Meyers didn't play in the game as starters were kept out, but was seen on the sidelines with a glove on his hand and a brace over the glove.

Meyers was held out of drills during the tail end of joint practice with the Panthers on Aug. 19, but wasn't designated with an injury. He didn't leave the practice field as the team finished out the final period of practice, watching from the sidelines.

"We'll have to see, he kind of jammed it, so we'll have to see where it's at when we get to Tuesday," head coach Liam Coen said after the game. "I don't want to push it too much."

The Jaguars were already without Parker Washington last week who was sidelined with an undisclosed injury. He's expected to return to practice this week. Now, Trevor Lawrence could be without another starting pass catcher.

This would likely open the door for Jacksonville's rookie pass catchers CJ Williams and Josh Cameron to see an increase in reps if Meyers misses time. Both players have been standouts since touching the grass in Jacksonville this summer.

Williams is listed as Meyers' immediate backup on the unofficial depth chart and said he looks up to the veteran receiver when he was drafted in April. Cameron has consistently made plays when given opportunities, reeling in jump ball passes and emerging as a downfield threat. Tim Jones and Chandler Brayboy are two other players who could see an increase in reps if Meyers misses time.

A player who likely would not fill the void for Meyers would be two-way player Travis Hunter as he continues to trend towards being a starter on Jacksonville's defense. Hunter is listed behind Brian Thomas Jr. on the depth chart on offense and has largely focused on that specific position in Coen's system as opposed to the multiple positions he learned during his rookie season.
