A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Jacksonville's Brooklyn neighborhood on Monday evening, Aug. 24, Jacksonville police said.
The man, in his mid-30s, was hit by a southbound Ford Bronco in the 600 block of Park Street at about 7:07 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The incident marked the 116th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 29th involving a pedestrian, according to police.
Crash statistics in Northeast Florida
Through Aug. 20, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported 28 pedestrian fatalities in 298 crashes this year in Duval County. In Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties,
31 pedestrian fatalities in 392 crashes were reported during the same time frame.
