Paxon senior Javon Johnson is the new Florida Times-Union Boys Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2026-27 season, covering the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 5 in the Jacksonville area.
The linebacker made 18 tackles and three sacks and also blocked a punt on special teams to help Golden Eagles football defeat Williston 26-25.
He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Xander Camus (Bartram Trail football), JJ Etienne (Yulee football), Sam Lee (Stanton swimming), Michael Rattigan (Wolfson golf) and Brantley Rigdon (Bolles cross-country).

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's boys High School Athlete of the Week
for the week of Sept. 8-12.
The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com. Deadline to receive nominations is 7 p.m. Saturdays.
This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

Jack Cole, Providence golf
The sophomore shot a 68 for medalist honors and a team championship at Atlantic Beach Country Club in the Fletcher Invitational.
Jaxon Flowers, Bolles football
The junior intercepted two passes, recorded nine tackles and threw a touchdown pass on offense in a 35-13 win against Bishop Kenny.
Michael Hills, Sandalwood football
The junior scored kickoff return and punt return touchdowns as well as one score receiving and two rushing, for 367 all-purpose yards, defeating Atlantic Coast 49-26.
Evan Kirby, Fletcher cross-country
The sophomore ran a season-best 16:27.3 to place second at the Bobcat Classic in Gainesville.
Jaylin Robinson, Christ's Church football
The senior rushed for all seven Eagle touchdowns in a 49-20 victory at Duval Charter.
William Shoesmith, Fleming Island swimming
The senior won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle at the Byron Plapp Invitational.
