The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed second-year pass rusher BJ Green on the injured reserve list.
Green had a standout preseason and was projected to have a big role with Jacksonville's defense, but exited the team's 34-10 victory against the Browns early with an elbow injury.
He was originally deemed questionable to return to the game before being ruled out from the contest in the second half. Green can return from injured reserve after missing four games.
In addition to placing Green on IR, the Jaguars signed linebacker Jack Kiser from the practice squad to the active roster and signed defensive end BJ Ojulari to the practice squad.
“It’s probably
going to be a little bit," head coach Liam Coen said on Sept. 14 when asked about Green's injury. "We’ll figure it out but fully expect DE Bryan Thomas Jr. to be active this week probably.”
Thomas, like Green and teammate Danny Striggow last season, made the roster as an undrafted free agent this summer. He was listed as one of Jacksonville's inactives in the season opening game.
Now, he'll likely get the chance to see game action as the Jaguars turn to their depth players to replace Green. Fellow rookie Wesley Williams could also be in line to be active while Green is out.
The Jaguars will take on the Denver Broncos this week in a battle between two of the top teams in the AFC from last season.
