Jacksonville Jaguars take advantage of Patriots mistakes in 35-6 win

Sometimes, the team that makes the fewest mistakes, not the most plays, wins the game.

For the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1), that was exactly the case against the New England Patriots (1-2) in the team's 35-6 victory Sunday, Sept. 27.

Jacksonville capitalized on two New England turnovers to add seven points in the first half. New England's second turnover likely cost the Super Bowl runner-up at least three points with a chip-shot on deck had quarterback Drake Maye simply thrown the ball away.

FINAL: Jaguars vs. Patriots

In what felt like the most important drive of the afternoon for the Patriots, kicker Andy Borregales missed a chip-shot, 38-yard field goal coming out of halftime.

After committing too many mistakes in the team's Week 2 loss to the Broncos,

the Jaguars limited their issues to one interception, which gave New England three points.

Trevor Lawrence moves up in the record books

After a couple of stalled drives to start the game, Jacksonville found the end zone thanks to a 12-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to rookie wideout Josh Cameron.

After throwing an interception on the next offensive series, Lawrence found veteran wideout Jakobi Meyers on a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Jacksonville a 14-3 lead late in the second quarter.

The two touchdown tosses moved Lawrence into second all-time in team history with 104 touchdown passes. Lawrence passed former Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (103).

Lawrence finished the game completing 19 out of 29 passes for 182 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Lawrence could have scored another touchdown on a rush, but he took a knee at the one-yard line to chew the clock. Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten took the ball into the end zone, giving Jacksonville a 35-6 lead late in the fourth quarter.

Travis Hunter records first-career interception vs. Patriots

With the first half winding down, Jaguars cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter came up big, picking off Patriots QB Drake Maye in the back of the end zone.

Maye rolled to his right before tossing the ball up, intended for tight end Hunter Henry, but Jacksonville's Hunter came down with it. The turnover marked Hunter's first in his career after being drafted second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Entering Sunday's matchup, one of the leading storylines centered around Hunter's usage on either side of the ball. While he didn't make an offensive impact in the first half, his defensive presence is no longer in doubt.

Parker Washington continues dominance with 17-yard touchdown catch

The Jaguars have relied on Jaguars receiver Parker Washington plenty this season and he came through again to the tune of three catches for 40 yards and a 17-yard touchdown catch that'll be on ESPN's SportsCenter in the morning.

With defenders draped on him, Washington hauled in an unlikely touchdown catch, stretching in front of the New England defender. The score put Jacksonville up 21-3, giving them more cushion as the team coasted to victory.

Washington has quickly become one of the team's most reliable players this year.

Jaguars defense forces multiple Drake Maye turnovers

Jacksonville's defense came to play Sunday with three turnovers before the fourth quarter began. The first was an empty-hand fumble by Maye, which was recovered by Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton.

Hunter forced the second turnover, extending Maye's interception streak to three games to start the season. To cap the defense's performance, cornerback Jarrian Jones came down with another interception, giving the team two on the day and three total turnovers.

Up next: Jaguars get back on the road for rematch vs. Bengals

The Jaguars take the road in Week 4 to face the Cincinnati Bengals. The game gives Jacksonville and head coach Liam Coen a chance to avenge their Week 2 loss to Cincy last season.
