New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars predictions

It had been a long time since the Jacksonville Jaguars had lost a regular season game prior to last weekend's collapse at Denver.

Nov. 9, 2025 to be exact.

315 days.

Now, the big question is: How do the Jaguars respond?

Do they tighten up their defense, clean up their offense and defeat the visiting New England Patriots?

Or do they spiral out of control, like so many teams that suffer tough losses.

The Patriots, in many ways, are like the Broncos: top-notch defense, promising young quarterback and a veteran coaching staff.

That being said, quarterback Drake Maye hasn't lived up to his billing in the early going for the Patriots (1-1).

Can the Jaguars get after Maye and force mistakes, or will one loss lead to another lead to another.

Must-win time for the Jaguars even though it’s only Week 3 because, after facing the Patriots, they will play only one of their next seven games in Jacksonville.

What’s happened to Patriots quarterback Drake Maye? In the 2025 regular season, he had 31 touchdowns, eight interceptions and completed 72% of his passes. But in his last six games (playoffs last year and Weeks 1-2 this year), he has seven touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 61.1 completion rate.

The Jaguars must add to Maye’s struggles by re-discovering their four-man pass rush that was missing in last week’s loss to Denver and playing tighter coverage since the expectation is the Patriots want to get Maye in an early-game rhythm via high-percentage passes.

New England is without receiver A.J. Brown (ankle) for the second consecutive game, leaving Romeo Doubs (three catches for 96 yards against Pittsburgh) as the top target.

The Jaguars score 10 points off two takeaways and to improve to 2-1.

A lot went wrong last week in the loss to Denver. But despite it all, the Jaguars were leading early in the fourth quarter and lost by only a touchdown. There are no must-wins in September. This comes close and the team, in its short history under Liam Coen, has shown a knack for bouncing back.

Everyone, pump the brakes. A one-score loss to a team that played in the AFC Championship last season isn't reason to panic. Maybe Maye will serve a few cold cuts to the team with the second most takeaways last season, iykyk.

Which Jaguars team will show up? If it's the one that built a two-score lead in Denver before things went wrong, they've got a chance at knocking off an AFC Championship-winning Patriots squad that hasn't yet found its rhythm on offense.

This will be a defensive battle that ends off the foot of kicker Cam Little. Little missed a field goal last week at Denver, but it's doubtful he'll muff one two weeks in a row. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will continue to struggle as an invigorated rush of Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker will be putting on the pressure. And Trevor Lawrence will do just enough to help the Jags eke this one out.
