A day after the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookies reported to training camp and two days before they are joined by the rest of the roster, the team placed left tackle Cole Van Lanen and rookie offensive tackle Garrett DiGiorgio on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on July 26.
Van Lanen was the expected starting left tackle while DiGiorgio was slotted in as a backup left guard.
Van Lanen was initially selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he was placed on the practice squad that season. He appeared in just one game before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.
For his first few seasons in Jacksonville, Van Lanen largely remained on the bench until 2025, when he had a breakout season. He appeared in 16 games, starting 10,
taking over as the fulltime starter in December, when starting left tackle Walker Little got injured. Van Lanen didn't allow a single sack in his five games as a starter at left tackle.
Van Lanen sustained his right knee injury in the Week 18 win over the Tennessee Titans and missed the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Van Lanen did side-field work throughout the Jaguars’ offseason program.
DiGiorgio, an undrafted rookie from UCLA, participated in the Jaguars’ offseason program. His injury is undisclosed.
Van Lanen and DiGiorgio still count toward the NFL’s 90-man roster limit (the Jaguars have 91 players because of an international player exemption) and can be activated at any point.
Players on the PUP list can’t participate in on-field drills with the rest of the team.
The Jaguars open training camp practices on Aug. 29.
