Gas prices are up again and are reaching new heights with the national average for a regular gallon of gas nearing $4.50, and $4.24 across the Sunshine State, according to AAA.
In Jacksonville, gas prices began the week at $4.2923 and dropped slightly on Tuesday to $4.2579, but are still higher compared to last month's average of $3.8658.
To make matters worse, diesel prices are climbing too, with a gallon currently costing $6.2448. While that may not directly affect drivers who fill up with regular gasoline, diesel plays a major role in getting products where they need to go. It fuels many of the trucks and other vehicles that transport goods across the country.
When it costs more to move those goods, those added expenses can eventually make their
way to grocery stores and other retailers, potentially driving up the prices consumers pay for everyday items.
And with local gas prices across Duval County averaging $4.266 a gallon, finding a cheaper place to fill up can make a difference. Here’s where you can find some of the lowest prices to refuel your tank.

- Use cruise control to help maintain a constant speed.
- If your car has a manual transmission, upshift as soon as you can.
- Minimize your use of air conditioning.
- Using the air conditioner can reduce fuel efficiency by as much as 25 percent, according to Florida Farm Bureau.
- Combine multiple errands in one trip.
- Minimize your use of roof racks and remove special carriers when not in use and remove heavy, bulky items to improve mileage.
