Jacksonville police say three men in their late teens and another person were found shot at two Westside locations less than a mile apart following a late-night incident.
The teenagers were found wounded about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the 6900 block of Ortega Woods Drive by officers responding to a reported shooting, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
At the same time, police responding to a report of a shooting found the fourth victim in the 5600 block of Ortega Park Boulevard. The Sheriff's Office didn't release that person's age or say if the person was male or female.
Both locations are in residential neighborhoods about four miles west of Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
Information about the extent of the victims'
injuries and their conditions was not available as of mid-morning Sunday, Aug. 2.
The Sheriff's Office said its preliminary investigation indicates the shootings were related. But it was unclear whether the shootings happened at one or multiple locations.
The suspect or suspects, as well as the motive, were not immediately known. However, the Sheriff's Office said it doesn't appear that the victims knew who shot them, the Sheriff's Office said in the news release.
The Sheriff's Office also said there was no indication that the shootings were gang-related.
Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Robbery and Violent Crime Unit were interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area in search of surveillance video.
Quadruple shootings in Jacksonville this year
Jacksonville has experienced an inordinate number of shootings this year with four people wounded or killed. Here's a summary of the six others documented by the Times-Union using Sheriff's Office records.
- July 27: A 57-year-old woman was killed and three other people were wounded in the 8000 block of Susie Street.
- July 23: Four roommates were shot at a home in the 2400 block of McQuade Street near McDuff Avenue and Beaver Street.
- June 13: A 16-year-old boy, two women, ages 24 and 25, and a 41-year-old man were hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds at a large gathering outside a food store in the 9300 block of Norfolk Boulevard near Soutel Drive.
- Feb. 22: Wounded were a 34-year-old woman, two men, ages 37 and 43, and a 39-year-old woman at a street party near Jessie Street and A. Philip Randolph Boulevard.
- Feb. 8: Four men ranging in age from 44 to 57 years old sustained non-life-threatening injuries when a fight broke out at Paxon Liquors & Lounge at 750 Edgewood Ave. N.
- Feb. 4: Four women — ranging in age from 17 to 47 years old — were wounded when gunfire erupted during a fight at a large gathering in the 5700 block of Begonia Road off Edgewood Avenue.
