Ascent rallies for tie: Carolina fullback Jill Aguilera caused big problems for Sporting Jax all night. Her 55-yard free kick eluded Jacksonville goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks in the 52nd minute, and she set up Reese Tappan for the 83rd-minute header that sealed the draw.
Rookie nets milestone goal: Sporting Jax midfielder AJ Hennessey netted her first professional goal, finishing off a low cross from Sophie Jones in the 71st minute.
Quick free kicks: DeSmit netted the game's first goal
in the 20th on a counterattack set up by Hennessey and Ashlyn Puerta. … Carolina (5-1-1) equalized in the 39th minute when Shea Groom headed home a Mia Corbin corner kick. … DeSmit appeared to give Sporting Jax (3-2-2) the win with a 77th-minute penalty kick after a foul from Carolina's Jenna Butler, only for Tappan's goal to lead to the 1-1 draw. … The physical game included seven second-half yellow cards, five to Carolina. … Sporting Jax, which outshot Carolina 16-6, has now gone four games without a win for the first time in the club's brief history.
