A longtime North Jacksonville Wendy’s is the latest to close for the nation’s third-largest fast-food hamburger chain.
After decades of service, Wendy’s restaurant at 1175 Dunn Ave. recently closed. According to Duval County property records, the restaurant was built in 1979, just five years after Wendy’s made its Jacksonville debut.
The closing follows a number of others in Northeast Florida this year for the Dublin, Ohio-based chain, including its first Jacksonville restaurant at 3910 University Blvd. W., which closed in January after 52 years in business.
In April, Wendy’s closed its restaurant at 1616 University Blvd.
S., another longtime restaurant that opened in 1975 in the former Ranchette Restaurant spot. And in March, Wendy’s locations in Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach closed.
The restaurants were all operated by Wen South, the franchise operator of dozens of Wendy’s locations in Northeast Florida and North Florida, including Tallahassee, where it recently closed a restaurant at 1901 Apalachee Parkway.
The closings come after then-interim CEO Ken Cook told investors in a November 2025 earnings call that Wendy’s would be closing hundreds of locations, USA TODAY reported.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Cook. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
That announcement came a year after the chain closed 140 locations, USA TODAY reported.
