St. Augustine defense solid again, downs Clay. What's next for Jackets?

Thursday night football at the soggy home of St. Augustine started with a fumble recovery off a punt snap.

It continued with a strip-sack turned touchdown.

It ended with St. Augustine swarming to the top of District 4-4A, with a 6-0 record, closing the door on Clay 37-13 in high school football on Sept. 24.

The Yellow Jackets, who have kept stinging back for a month-plus in spite of injury setbacks, took command rapidly to roll, activating the running clock in a speedy, rain-soaked 1-hour, 49-minute contest.

A first-drive fumble recovery by Robert Haney and a scoop-and-score by Tray Campbell placed St. Augustine firmly in control of their district, with an extra week to rest before meeting Ridgeview, Orange Park and then Fleming Island.

"We might

not be as high on the [recruiting analysts'] star power as we've been," St. Augustine head coach Brian Braddock said, "but we've got a lot of good football players and a lot of really tough, hard-working kids. They've earned this bye week."
