LONDON – Jaguarsowner Shad Khan met with three Jacksonville area media members before his team’s game against the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium:
Khan hit on multiple topics during the 10-minute session outside the Jaguars’ locker room.
The 4-1 start
The Jaguars are 4-1 for the second consecutive year and for the second time since Khan bought the team before the 2012 season.
“I feel great,” Khan said. “Obviously, the season we had last year and you love stuff coming together as a football team but I also love what’s happening in the city, which is the development and promise of Jacksonville all happening at the same time.”
Khan praised executive vice president of football operations Tony Boselli, general manager James Gladstone and coach Liam Coen.
“Obviously,
I’ve been there 14 years (as owner) and we’ve matured as a team, as an organization and even though they’ve been there for (only) a second season, it’s not an overnight thing with the Miller Electric Center and a number of the key players, whether it’s (quarterback) Trevor (Lawrence and other) players – that (progress) has happened over time. We’re blessed to have Liam, James and Tony to be able to put it all together.”
Playing in London in 2027
Khan said the plan is for the Jaguars to “definitely” play at least one game in London next year.
“We do want to look at (the London strategy),” Khan said. “We’ve played 16 games here, we have a bunch of fans here and it’s been great for Jacksonville and the Jaguars.”
The Jaguars played “home” games here last week against the Philadelphia Eagles and Texans.
“This is the first year that’s happened because the league changed the rules here where the home team can’t name the opponent so this was a league rule,” Khan said. “Before that, it wasn’t the case.”
Stadium construction progress
Khan’s regular Jacksonville visits for Jaguars home games and other business allows him to see the progress being made on the stadium.
“It’s pretty cool; really, really cool,” Khan said. “I think that whole area is going to be amazing. Having the Four Seasons (hotel), the marina and all of the other development that started after we broke ground on the stadium.”
