University Christian junior Hudson Kwartler is the new Florida Times-Union Boys Athlete of the Week for Northeast Florida high school sports for the 2026-27 season, covering the week of Aug. 17-22 in the Jacksonville area.
The kicker nailed the game-winning 20-yard field goal as time expired to give University Christian a 31-29 victory on the road at state semifinalist Ponte Vedra in the Florida High School Athletic Association season opener for football.
He placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Rishi Chopra (Nease cross-country), Jaspreet Kondal (Beachside golf), Luke Ross (Ponte Vedra cross-country), Keondre Smith (Englewood football) and Jaylen Underwood (Columbia football).

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's boys High School Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 24-29.
The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com. Deadline to receive nominations is 7 p.m. Saturdays.
This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports.

The junior placed first in 19:22 at the FSDB Meet.
Ambrose Kinnare, Tocoi Creek golf
The junior shot a 32 at Slammer & Squire in a tri-match against Bartram Trail and Nease, and helped the Toros win the Birdies at Bold City Invitational.
Nik Morrell, Bishop Kenny swimming
The senior won the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.69) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.50) as the Crusaders won a meet against Sandalwood.
Tavaris Parker, Ribault football
The senior returned fumble more than 80 yards for a touchdown as the Trojans topped Jackson 34-14.
Jarelle Sims, Sandalwood football
The senior quarterback completed 15 of 21 passes for 300 yards and five touchdowns, winning 44-12 against Braves.
Kendrick Spann, Duval Charter football
The freshman receiver scored a kickoff return and caught five passes for 79 yards, gaining 219 all-purpose yards in a 40-22 win over Harvest Community.
