Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp return from their road trip in Georgia with a six-game split against the Gwinnett Stripers, alternating wins and losses in Lawrenceville, Ga. Jacksonville stands next to last in the International League East at 15-23 for the second half, 9 1/2 games behind leader Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Highlight: A big-time highlight arrived Sunday when newly-added pitcher Jace Beck hurled a five-inning no-hitter in his Jumbo Shrimp
debut. Beck, who retired the last 15 batters in a row, threw the second no-no of the season for Jacksonville.
Crustacean sensation: Newly acquired from the Chicago Cubs' organization, infielder Jonathon Long is off to a nice start with the Jumbo Shrimp. He batted .385 during his first series with the team, and also drew four walks.
On deck: Syracuse, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, has also struggled in the second half and ranks eighth in the IL East at 17-21. Familiar players on the roster include infielder Christopher Morel, and Syracuse also fields the Mets' highest-rated pitcher in right-hander Jonah Tong.
Ballpark fun: Look out, taste buds: Pudding or Mayonnaise Night comes Thursday, with opportunities for fans to volunteer for challenges with foods that look similar but taste very different. The Jumbo Shrimp celebrate women's sports on Tuesday, hold Shrimple Man Night in honor of Lynyrd Skynyrd on Wednesday, plus This or That Night on Friday, Jungle Night on Saturday and Girl Scout Night on Sunday.
