As Hurricane Isaias advances closer to a projected landfall along the Gulf Coast, threatening severe weather for the Florida Panhandle, the system is also disrupting the sports schedule across Northeast Florida.
Numerous high school football games involving teams from the Jacksonville area were rescheduled, generally moving up one day to Thursday, Oct. 8.
Northeast Florida football games moved forward thus far include Atlantic Coast at Creekside; Aucilla Christian at Hilliard; Baker County at Suwannee; Bartram Trail at Beachside; Fort White at Madison County; Union County at Fernandina Beach; and Winter Garden Foundation Academy at Providence. The University Christian vs. Williston game was both pushed forward to Oct. 8 and relocated to University Christian.
Thursday night football results are detailed here.
The Bishop Snyder at Orlando Faith Christian game was postponed to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Also affected was professional soccer. The Sporting Club Jacksonville women's soccer home game in the Gainbridge Super League against DC Power FC was postponed to Nov. 15 at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
The storm has also altered sports schedules for several colleges in the state. Florida State canceled baseball and basketball events in the Panhandle, and Florida A&M's football game against Alabama State was moved up from Saturday to Friday.
As of Friday morning, Isaias had reached Category 2 hurricane status with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour, as reported by the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters from the center warned that the hurricane may strengthen further to around 120 mph, although some weakening is possible just prior to landfall.
