TheJacksonville Jaguars continued to make roster moves on Sept. 1, all involving the team's practice squad.
The Jags signed versatile offensive lineman Eli Cox, who played for coach Liam Coen at Kentucky; past Iowa All-American safety Kaevon Merriweather; and the son of a former NFL player, tight end Hayden Rucci, to the practice squad.
The Jaguars also released offensive tackle Jimto Obidegwu, who had been cut and re-signed to the practice squad. The Jaguars are now at the 16-player practice squad limit, with offensive tackle Kilian Zierer of Germany not counting because he is part of the NFL's International Pathway Program.
Cox, Merriweather and Rucci all undrafted free agents
Cox, 25, started with Houston in 2025 and spent the entire season on the practice squad. He played at Kentucky from 2019-2024
(Coen was the offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2023) and started 47 games, 35 at center and 12 at guard. He started his last 38 college games in a row and was a two-time captain.
Merriweather, 26, began with Tampa Bay in 2023 and spent three seasons with the Bucs and part of last season with Houston. He has played in 43 NFL games, starting seven. He played at Iowa, collecting 118 tackles, four interceptions and a fumble return for a touchdown. He was second-team AP All-American as a senior in 2022.
Rucci, 25, began with Miami in 2024 and played in four games last season after spending 2024 on the practice squad. He played 35 games at Wisconsin from 2019-2023 (he was a teammate with Jaguars tackle Cole Van Lanen for two years) and caught 17 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown His father, Todd Rucci, was a guard with New England from 1993-1999.
