Pedestrian struck, killed early Wednesday on Jacksonville's Northside

A pedestrian died after she was struck by an SUV early Wednesday, Sept. 2, on the city's Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred about 3 a.m. in the 3700 block of Capper Road near Wingate Road in the College Park neighborhood, police said in a news release.

The SUV fled the scene without stopping to provide any information or assist the pedestrian.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

A witness described the vehicle as a dark SUV that fled on Capper Road toward Lem Turner Road, according to the news release.
