When a Jacksonville Fire Rescue crew responded to a call last week, they found that a surprising guest was already on scene.
Upon arrival, Engine 36 B-Shift was met with Jacksonville Jaguars star and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, according to a July 29 Facebook post shared by the agency.
"Our crews never know what the next call will bring," the caption read. "Last week, Engine 36 B-Shift responded to a call and found Sheriff T.K. Waters, members of JSO, and Jaguars star Travis Hunter already on scene."
The agency shared a photo of the encounter in the post, with Hunter smiling wide and sporting a police vest. "After the incident was under control, the crew had a chance to welcome Sheriff Waters and Travis to their territory and snap
a quick photo."

There was no further information as to what Hunter was doing at the scene or why he was wearing a police vest.

"Travis, let us know when you’re ready for your JFRD ride-along. We promise it’s just as hot as training camp," Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department wrote in the post.

Hunter was injured Oct. 30, 2025, while playing on the defensive side of the ball in practice, ahead of the team's Week 9 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The injury was non-contact.
The Jaguars placed Hunter on injured reserve with a right knee injury Oct. 31, later announcing his successful surgery to repair an isolated lateral collateral ligament (LCL) less than two weeks later.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper and Jaguars team physician Dr. Kevin Kaplan in Dallas, Texas, according to the team.
