As Hurricane Isaias moves closer to a projected landfall along the Gulf Coast, potentially including the Florida Panhandle, the tropical system is also disrupting the sports schedule across Northeast Florida.
Numerous high school football games involving teams from the Jacksonville area have been rescheduled, generally moving up one day to Thursday, Oct. 8.
Northeast Florida football games moved forward thus far include Atlantic Coast at Creekside; Aucilla Christian at Hilliard; Baker County at Suwannee; Bartram Trail at Beachside; Fort White at Madison County; Union County at Fernandina Beach; and Winter Garden Foundation Academy at Providence.
The University Christian vs. Williston game was both pushed forward to Oct. 8 and relocated to University Christian.
In Southeast Georgia, Atkinson County's game at Charlton County is also rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8.
The storm has also altered sports schedules for several colleges in the state. Florida State canceled baseball and basketball events in the Panhandle, and Florida A&M's football game against Alabama State was moved up from Saturday to Friday.
As of Thursday morning, Isaias had reached hurricane status with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour, as reported by the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters from the center projected the hurricane to reach sustained winds around 110 mph, but noted that it could weaken somewhat just prior to landfall.
