Florida gas prices jumped overnight to a statewide average on Sept. 23 of $4.29 per gallon, up 5 cents from Sept. 22, according toAAA Auto Club.
In Jacksonville, the average price for regular gas is $4.2896 per gallon, up 3 cents from the day before. Meanwhile, the average price of diesel gas dropped 3 cents, and sits at $6.2118 per gallon.
"Rising oil prices contributed to the latest jump at the pump," wrote Mark Jenkins, the Tampa-based spokesman for AAA, in his latest weekly fuel price report for Florida. "Ongoing tensions in the Middle East have created uncertainty about global oil supplies. That uncertainty has placed renewed upward pressure on oil prices. Since oil accounts for about half the price of gasoline, higher crude costs are making
their way to gas stations nationwide."

Some Florida stations are now charging $4.99 a gallon
In the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, where the average price Sept. 23 leads the state at $4.43 per gallon, a pair of Shell stations on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach are now selling regular gas for $4.99, according to the mobile app GasBuddy, which tracks prices at individual stations based on motorists' reports.
In Naples, where the average price rose to $4.39 a gallon, second highest in the state, several stations raised their price for regular gas to $4.49 on Sept. 23.
The Gainesville area had the third-highest gas prices among all metro areas in Florida on Sept. 23 with an average price of $4.35 a gallon. The Chevron at 3328 W. University Ave. was charging $4.99.
What parts of Florida have the cheapest gas prices?
Among all metro areas, Crestwood-Fort Walton Beach had the cheapest gas prices in the state on Sept. 23, with an average price of $4.06 a gallon, followed by Panama City and Pensacola, where the average price for both areas was $4.09, according to AAA, which reports changes in average gas prices based on a nightly comprehensive survey of the final credit card purchases of fuel at stations across the country.
GasBuddy showed a handful of stations still selling regular gas for less than $4 a gallon, in the Florida Panhandle, including a Petro Express at 245 Miracle Strip Parkway S.W. in Fort Walton Beach that was charging $3.87.
In Pensacola, the Cumberland Farms at 1290 Airport Blvd., the Citgo at 2111 W. Garden St., and the Tom Thumb at 2200 W. Garden St. were still charging $3.99 a gallon as of Tuesday night, according to GasBuddy.
How Florida gas prices compare to the rest of the nation
The national average price of regular gasoline on Sept. 23 stood at $4.47 per gallon, up 9 cents in the past week and up 38 cents in the past month.
Florida currently has the 35th highest average gas prices in the country, according to AAA.
California leads the way, with a statewide average price now at $6.20 a gallon, followed by Hawaii and Washington state at $5.55.
Texas currently has the cheapest gas at $3.96, followed by Indiana at $3.98, and Mississippi at $3.99. Those were the only three states with average prices still below $4.
Diesel prices continue to hover at or near record highs
The national average price for diesel, which the trucking industry relies on to transport goods throughout the country, on Wednesday remained at a record high $6.52 a gallon, up 92 cents from $5.60 a month ago and a whopping $2.83 from $3.69 a year ago, according to AAA. This month marked the first time in history in the United States that the average price of diesel topped $6 a gallon.
In Florida, the average price for diesel was somewhat lower at $6.22 a gallon on Sept. 23, but up 74 cents from $5.48 a month ago and up $2.65 from $3.57 a year ago.
Long-haul 18-wheel semi-trucks typically have fuel tanks that hold 200 to 300 gallons of diesel which must be refilled every one to two days.
