The Florida High School Athletic Association opens regional swimming meets this week for Class 3A and 4A teams in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. All schedules are as listed by the FHSAA but are subject to change.
Region 1-4A
When: 9 a.m. Oct. 30 (diving), 10 a.m. Oct. 31 (swimming)
Where: Rosen Aquatic Center, Orlando (diving); Lake Brantley Aquatic Center, Altamonte Springs (swimming)
Outlook: Nease is the reigning boys state champion. Creekside just earned boys and girls district championships, on the boys side by only a half-point. Now, the St. Johns County schools tangle again in Central Florida. Creekside is especially strong in the girls events, where Makayla Davies, Emmie Lewis, Sophie Oldham and Makayla Taggart combined to sweep most of the individual
races in districts, but they also have contenders on the boys side in Ian Foulk and Bailey Koo. For Nease, Lincoln Driesse and Luke Zardavets regularly gather big points in boys races, while Anna Michael Driesse is a major girls contender. Not to be ignored are other area challengers like Mandarin's Landon Ecklof and Tocoi Creek's Kaleea Zielinski. Sanford Seminole, Lake Brantley, Oviedo and Winter Park are also in the mix.

Region 1-3A
When: 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27
Where: Dwight H. Hunter Pool, Gainesville.
Outlook: Ponte Vedra is already on top of the state for Class 3A girls swimming, and they're serious contenders on the boys side as well. The Sharks hold top seeds in all three girls relays, and their individual leaders include Ava Pell in the girls 200 IM, Makenna Biernacki in the girls 50 free, Mady Tulloch in the girls 100 fly, Mikayla Costello in the girls 100 breast and Aaron Yang in the boys 100 back. But they must watch for Tallahassee Chiles and Gateway Conference and District 2-3A champion Fletcher, which is especially strong in boys sprints with Merrick Vanscoy, Mason Baldwin, Jackson Moore, Bennett Rotramel and several divers. Fleming Island's William Shoesmith and Noah Stotler are heavy favorites in their events, too, while Dakota Blake and Zephan Leak lead a rising Orange Park. Bartram Trail's Jenna Frost in the distance races and Isabelle Kadela in the 100 back are also among area girls contenders.
