A woman in her mid-50s died after crashing her SUV into a fence while exiting a Westside Jacksonville apartment complex early Aug. 7, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred around 6:48 a.m. at Westwood Apartments, 1171 Lane Ave. S. in Jacksonville, when a black SUV struck a fence at low speed as it exited the complex. Jacksonville police said it appears the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, JSO said in a news release. Her identity has not yet been released.
It's unclear whether the woman was a resident of the apartment complex or if she had any prior medical
conditions that may have contributed to the crash.
The scene remained active as of 9:15 a.m., with officers working to document evidence and determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.

The incident marked the 111th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, according to the news release.
