A elderly woman died after a hit-and-run crash in Jacksonville on Aug. 15, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the 200 block of McDuff Avenue South, when the woman was struck by an unknown vehicle while crossing the roadway at Rexford Street. The driver fled the scene without offering help or contacting authorities, police said in a news release.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The incident marks the 114th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, police said.

Through Aug. 13, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported 26 pedestrian fatalities in 288 crashes this year in Duval County. In Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties, 29 pedestrian fatalities in 378 crashes were reported during the same time frame.
