Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp snapped what had been a 12-game losing streak, taking four of six games at VyStar Ballpark against the Memphis Redbirds. Still, they remain ninth of 10 teams in the International League East, 10 1/2 games behind first-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, as hopes of a league championship repeat dwindle.
Highlight: It was walk-off time for Deyvison De Los Santos on Thursday in
the second game of a seven-inning doubleheader that went to extras. The Jumbo Shrimp slugger hit the game-winning RBI single that scored Connor Norby in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-3 Jacksonville victory.
Crustacean sensation: That walk-off hit was one of two game-winners on the week for De Los Santos, who also supplied the deciding RBI in Tuesday's series opener. He's batting .317 over the past eight weeks with seven home runs in that span.
On deck: The Stripers, Triple-A affiliates of the Atlanta Braves, are hovering just above the .500 mark at 17-16 for the second half and field players of local interest in outfielder Ben Gamel (Bishop Kenny High School) and infielder Brett Wisely (Sandalwood High School). Former All-Star Carlos Santana, who has 335 career home runs in the majors, is also with Gwinnett on a minor-league deal, and veteran Braves catcher Sean Murphy is on a rehab assignment with the Stripers.
Probable pitchers Tuesday: To be announced.
