Jacksonville Jaguars open season with blowout victory over Browns

The Jacksonville Jaguars got their season rolling with a big win at home against the Cleveland Browns. The team defeated the visitors 34-10 in a dominating victory to kickoff the second year of the Liam Coen era in Jacksonville.

The win is the second consecutive season-opener that the Jaguars have won, defeating the Carolina Panthers to open last season.

Now, the team will try to carry this momentum on the road as they visit the Denver Broncos next week in a matchup between two of the league's top teams from last season.

There was plenty of good for the Jaguars to build off of, as they looked good in multiple phases of the game against the Browns.

Parker Washington and the Jaguars came to a stalemate as the regular season began. Washington decided to take a gamble on himself as he enters his fourth season in the league, tabling talks until later.

It seems that bet will cash as he opened the scoring this season with a diving touchdown reception in the first quarter.

Washington secured the 30-yard catch from Trevor Lawrence as he dove into the endzone, a play similar to several catches he had during training camp and the preseason.

Washington finished with five catches for 83 yards, a good sign as the Jaguars test their offense in the second year of Coen's system. It was a continuation of what they showed in the preseason as Washington consistently reeled in several passes from Lawrence.

Trevor Lawrence stays sharp, throws TDs to multiple pass catchers

Trevor Lawrence earned Most Valuable Player votes last season. He might be the leader in the clubhouse after Week 1.

Lawrence came out dealing, tossing touchdown passes to Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, Josh Cameron and Brenton Strange.

He completed 18 of 23 of his pass attempts for 245 yards and the four touchdowns without throwing any interceptions. His connection with Brian Thomas Jr. flashed, finding the speedy route runner three times for 40 yards.

It was a continuation of his sharpness from last season where he helped the Jaguars go on a win streak to make the playoffs.

Even as Cleveland defenders pressured him, he kept composed and delivered catchable passes for his receivers. Nine different players caught a pass from Lawrence as the Jaguars paced the game from the start.

Jaguars' defense shows up big time, pressures Deshaun Watson

The Browns' offense and quarterback Deshaun Watson never looked comfortable. Watson was rushed, hurried, sacked and hit all game.

He was unable to ever find a rhythm as the Jaguars' defense made it an uncomfortable outing for the visitors. The Browns were limited to 1-of-8 on third downs, struggling to move the chains as the team fell behind the sticks.

Jacksonville's defense swarmed to the ball on rushing plays, reminding the Browns of their top run defense ranking from last season.

With nothing working on the ground, the Browns tried to turn to their passing game to get help. They were unable to as the Jaguars recorded five sacks in the contest.

They trapped Watson in the backfield without an outlet on multiple occasions. When he was able to get the ball downfield, he was unable to pick up big gains.

It was the type of performance that'd you'd expect from Year 2 in Anthony Campanile's defense.
