Finally, some good news for the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive line.
Cole Van Lanen, who was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on July 26, is being activated after passing his physical Aug. 20, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Van Lanen sustained a right knee injury in the Week 18 win over the Tennessee Titans and missed the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Van Lanen did side-field work throughout the Jaguars’ offseason program.
The Jaguars have struggled with offensive line injuries in recent weeks.
Right guard Patrick Mekari underwent a “recent” surgery on his back.
Offensive tackle Chuma Edoga has been out after suffering a lower body injury last week.
Wyatt Milum is out this week with an undisclosed injury but is expected
back next week.
And recently added offensive tackle Geron Christian Sr. has missed time this week with undisclosed issue.
The Jaguars traded with the Giants on Aug. 19 to bring in Daniel Faalele to help bolster the offensive line.
Where does Cole Van Lanen fit?
Van Lanen was expected to be the starting left tackle heading into camp, but the Jaguars have since moved Anton Harrison into that position. It looks as though that will remain the plan.
Van Lanen will provide versatility at whichever position he plays.
Van Lanen was initially selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL Draft, but was placed on the practice squad that season. He appeared in just one game before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.
For his first few seasons in Jacksonville, Van Lanen largely remained on the bench until 2025, when he had a breakout season. He appeared in 16 games, starting 10.
