The Jacksonville Jaguars have made it to the bye week.
The team is two games above .500 after losses to the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans with wins against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns.
The bye week will allow the Jaguars a chance to rest and prepare for the remainder of their schedule while evaluating their first six games.
Ahead of the start of training camp, we compiled a list of Jacksonville's most important players. After having the duration of the preseason and multiple games to review, we've updated our rankings.
Here are the most important players on the Jacksonville Jaguars as it stands.
Cam Little, Kicker
Cam Little could argue
for a higher spot on this list. He’s the person who kept the Jaguars from a potential .500 start after his walk-off field goal against the Eagles. Through six games he’s converting field goals at 83.3 percent, netting 10 of his 12 attempts. He’s even more accurate with extra points, only missing one and it came on a high snap after backup long snapper, defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton started snapping for him. Little’s strong leg allows Jacksonville to enter field goal range as soon as they get to midfield. It’s a valuable asset to have as they compete in the back half of the season.
DaVon Hamilton, Defensive lineman
Speaking of Hamilton, he’s earned a spot on this list as one of the most important players on the roster. So much of Jacksonville’s run defense has centered around his trench work, plugging holes and allowing teammates to fly downhill. His breakout performance hasn’t been limited to run stopping, though. He’s taken strides as a pass rusher and has clawed his way into the opposing backfield to pressure quarterbacks often this season. Hamilton’s work is often overlooked because he plays in the trenches, but he has been an important piece of the success the Jaguars have had on defense to start the season.
Parker Washington, Wide receiver
Entering the season, Parker Washington was not a player who was on this list. His value through the first six games has shot up and he should be in line for a big pay day at some point in the next few months. It’s not just that he’s been the most targeted receiver. It’s not just the highlight reel catches that he makes weekly. It’s not his versatility or skill to win against even the top defenders in the league. It’s the fact that as Brian Thomas Jr. has tapered off, Washington has continued to ascend and has replaced him as the top receiving option in Jacksonville. Washington is one of Jacksonville’s most valuable players and he’s going to force the hand of the front office sooner than later.
Travis Hunter, Cornerback/Wide receiver
This kind of speaks for itself if you’ve watched the Jaguars this season. Travis Hunter has arguably been the best defensive player for Jacksonville and in limited reps on offense he’s shown flashes of the impact he can make. After all of the noise surrounding trades, value, usage and a lot of other non-factors, the talk surrounding Hunter is finally about his play on the field. Play that has shown his natural position is cornerback and he’s one of the best in the league in his second year. Play that’s shown when he gets the ball on offense he can immediately flip a game on its head. Hunter is only going to get better, which is bad news for everyone who made bold assumptions about him based on an abbreviated rookie season.

Trevor Lawrence, Quarterback
We’re seeing the start of, potentially, the best season that quarterback Trevor Lawrence has ever put together as a professional. The momentum gained at the tail end of last season has carried over into this year and it has the Jaguars two games above .500 at the bye week. His command and operation of Coen’s offense has resulted in a league-best 14 touchdown passes — which is more than his rookie season when he had 12 touchdown passes. He’s on pace for passing 40 touchdowns if he plays all 17 games, which would be his career best by a sizable margin. It’s also important to note the Jaguars played in two blowout games where they shifted to a run-heavy offense down the stretch, and Lawrence was pulled from the final minutes of the game. So those numbers could’ve been even higher. The days of questioning whether Lawrence has the proverbial “it” are long gone. He’s the most valuable player on the Jaguars, and soon, he might get nods as the most valuable player in the league.
