Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead and his wife, Dr. Melinda Armstead, helped sponsor a career camp for youth in Northeast Florida recently. Armstead and his non-profit, the Armstead Academic Project, teamed with NLP Logix to host to a Stay Hungry Career Camp for students from KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools.
Armstead, the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient, has always been a strong combatant against academic inequality. He has hosted several different programs for youth in Jacksonville since signing with the Jaguars in 2024.
The career camp gave students a chance to learn about different careers at NLP Logix as they rotated through sessions with departments in the company.
I won’t let that happen for other kids.
"This program is all about creating opportunities for young people," Armstead said. "We feel that every young person deserves the opportunity to explore a career or passion of theirs. That's what our career camps are all about."
Through the career camp, students were able to broaden their horizons about AI as they learned different career paths they could take.
The target age for the students puts them in the critical zone of pre-college life where they'll soon decide what they want to major in and potential careers. With the career camp, they were given an option that they might not have originally thought of.

The Armstead Academic Project has teamed with other companies around the country to sponsor career camps for youth. Armstead's goal is to open doors for youth, and he's challenging other athletes to do the same.
"We all have sports camps, whatever sports you play, but imagine if you had a career camp where you're from or the city that you play in," he said as a challenge to other athlete's "The impact we could have and actually helping to change our next generation."
Armstead's impact goes further than the youth. After Travon Walker was named the NFLPA's Community MVP a few weeks ago, he credited Armstead with assisting him in the foundation space.
It's evidence of the impact athlete's can have on each other as they try to better their community beyond the football field.
