An apparent shooting threat cut short a high school football game in Jacksonville on Sept. 4.
Neither shots nor injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at a game between Providence School and host Eagle's View Academy.
Providence coach Maurice Williams told the Times-Union that the incident, which occurred shortly after the start of the third quarter, occurred after someone threatened to "shoot up the place."
"[A] police officer overheard and made a decision with officials to shut it down," Williams said in a text message to the Times-Union.
Williams, a former NFL offensive lineman with the Jacksonville Jaguars, said everyone was able to exit the venue safely.
Additional information on the individual responsible for the alleged threat
was not immediately known. No police report of the incident is yet available.
The game is considered official with Providence, which led 23-0 at the time, as the winner.
