In recent months, Wendy's has made changes to coax the fading fast-food audience back through the doors. They brought back the familiar yellow packaging and offered a Dave's Single combo meal for $7.99 for a limited time as part of a push to bring value back to the menu.
They even released an emo album called "Songs to Listen to in the Wendy's Parking Lot."
The Dublin, Ohio-based burger chain famous for its "fresh, never frozen" square burgers, chili, Frostys, and more, also announced plans last year to close 5% to 6% of its underperforming stores nationwide during the first half of 2026. About 245 locations closed their doors, according to Nation's Restaurant News. That's on top of the 140 locations that closed in 2024.
At least 65 Wendy's locations
have closed in Florida in the last couple of years, according to a comparison to an archived store list from December 2025. However, around 17 new Wendy's have opened in the same time period.

Jacksonville hit hardest in Wendy's closings
Jacksonville, which had 31 locations last summer, lost 13, including one that's been open since 1974, just five years after Dave Thomas founded the restaurant and named it after his daughter. Another built in 1979 closed recently.
Tallahasseeand Miami lost five. Orlando, Pensacola, and St. Augustine lost three each.
Several Florida cities, including Casselberry, Clearwater, Mary Esther, Oviedo, Ponte Vedra, South Pasadena, and Winter Springs, were left without any Wendy's at all.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," then-interim CEO Ken Cook told investors in a November 2025 earnings call. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Wendy's has continued opening new locations, including new Florida restaurants in Apollo Beach, Bradenton, DeFuniak Springs, Palmetto, Safety Harbor, Spring Hill, Wesley Chapel, and more. Miami got two back. In March, the company announced plans to build more than 60 new locations in Mexico.
