A popular Jacksonville fast-food chicken restaurant is getting ready to rise from the ashes four months after a devastating fire forced its temporary closure.
Chick-fil-A plans to reopen at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7147 Philips Highway in Butler Pointe Plaza.
"After months of rebuilding, we’re SO excited to welcome you back to Butler Blvd Chick-fil-A. … Bring your family, friends, and coworkers to help us kick off this exciting new chapter! We can’t wait to see you!," the restaurant announced Oct. 19 on Facebook.
It won't be offering breakfast on reopening day. But breakfast service will resume as normal going forward, according to the post.
No injuries were reported in the June 9 predawn fire believed to have been sparked by an electrical
issue. The blaze caused extensive damage to the kitchen, drive-thru and adjacent interior dining area.
Repairs and alterations to the 4,969-square-foot restaurant were estimated at $1.5 million, according to a July 9 city building permit.
Dating back to 2004, the restaurant has had different franchise owners over the years, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation online records show.
Neither Chick-fil-A officials nor the current franchisee could be reached for comment.
Restaurant officials in an Oct. 13 Facebook post said they were excited to reopen.
"We are excited to announce our store is expected to reopen this month. The past several months have been a journey we never expected, filled with challenges, changes, and so many emotions. But through it all, one thing has never changed…the incredible love and support of our team from our amazing community," they wrote in the post.
They noted that the restaurant means more than a place to get a good meal.
"It’s never just been about chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. It’s about the people, the connections, the memories, and the community we’re blessed to serve. We’ve missed seeing your smiling faces, serving your families, and being part of your everyday moments," they said in the post.
Customers welcomed the reopening news — voicing relief on social media.
"Oh I'm so glad you guys are opening back up again I've seen how bad that building was after the fire I really didn't think it would be possible to come back but I'm so glad hard work paid off," one customer wrote.
Another commented: "SO ELATED - for the owners, operators, and servants who work there but MAN, having it open again is gonna bless those of us who have gone without you guys all summer! So thankful!"
